WEST COAST has lobbied the AFL to let them open a floating Round 18 to best prepare for a likely home final.
The Eagles will play North Melbourne in what remains an unconfirmed last round of the home-and-away season.
West Coast want to play that match as early as possible – most likely Thursday, September 17 - so it can get back to Perth to prepare for a home final at Optus Stadium.
The Eagles sit fifth on the ladder and face St Kilda in Round 17.
The West Australian club has been active when it comes to the North Melbourne game, having tried and failed to buy the rights to host the game in Perth.
The Round 18 fixture request is its latest attempt to best prepare for the finals series.
The AFL plans to release the details of the last round of the season on Wednesday, with clubs eagerly-awaiting confirmation.
