Report: Uncontracted Bomber pair facing "uncertain future"

2020-09-19T12:03+10:00

The future of out-of-contract Essendon forward duo Jacob Townsend and Shaun McKernan remains uncertain, according to the Herald Sun.

Both McKernan and Townsend, who haven’t been selected for the club’s season-closing clash against Melbourne, have reportedly been made to wait on any contract extension until rebounding defender Adam Saad and key forward Joe Daniher inform the club on whether they’ll be there in 2021.

Townsend joined Essendon this season after being delisted at Richmond in 2019, kicking nine goals from 12 games in his debut season in the red and back.

McKernan has been at the Bombers since 2015 but only played just nine times this year, booting five goals.

The futures of Townsend and McKernan as well as the decisions on Saad and Daniher are just four of the big calls new coach Ben Rutten will have to sort out in his first weeks as official Essendon coach.

Both Townsend and McKernan are yet to sign on at Essendon beyond the end of the current season.
