Why Watson is feeling more positive about Saad's Essendon future

2020-09-25T12:53+10:00

Essendon’s Adam Saad has a big decision to make in the coming weeks as multiple opposition clubs circle the out-of-contract rebounding defender.

Richmond, Carlton, North Melbourne and Melbourne have all reportedly registered their interest in the 25-year-old, who finished in the top three of Essendon’s best and fairest this year.

Saad was interviewed at Brisbane Airport on Thursday by Channel 7 and said he was intending to catch up with family before making a decision on his future.

After hearing Saad speak, Watson said he believed there was now more optimism about him signing on at the Bombers.

“I’m a little bit more positive that he’ll stay at Essendon after yesterday,” he said on SEN Breakfast.

“It’s not categoric in any way but it’s just my reading of the situation, there (seems) to be more positivity about him staying.

“Essendon fans should love him because in the time he’s been at Essendon, he’s been in the top three most consistent players the club has had in that period of time.

“He gets out there and gets the job done week in, week out.”

Saad didn’t miss a game for Essendon this season, averaging just under 19 touches as well as four rebound 50s.
