Tim Watson has the latest on Joe Daniher and the club who has been talking to him for "some time"

Restricted free agent Joe Daniher is leaving Essendon and will land up signing with the Brisbane Lions, according to Tim Watson.

The 26-year-old forward is yet to publicly clarify his future following another injury-interrupted season which restricted him to just four games.

After kicking three goals in his comeback game against Hawthorn in Round 14, Daniher went goalless in the last three matches of the season.

With Essendon’s season now completed, the football world is awaiting Daniher's next move and after making some calls on Wednesday, Watson now believes he will walk out on the club in the coming weeks.

“I made some calls yesterday and obviously I’m interested in what’s happening with Joe Daniher,” he said on SEN Breakfast.

“I think he’s definitely going and absolutely think that based on all the feedback I got yesterday, I think he’ll land up at Brisbane and they’ve been talking to him for some time.”

Watson questioned why Sydney, who failed in their pursuit of Daniher during last year’s trade period, wasn’t as interested in making another bid this time around.

“The interesting thing for me – why do you think Sydney’s (interest) has dropped off in Joe Daniher,” he said.

“I think they probably have (someone else in their sights), Jeremy Cameron’s name has been bandied about, he doesn’t want to leave NSW so the only place he can go if he doesn’t want to leave (the state) is the Sydney Swans.

“The whole Buddy (Lance Franklin) thing, has it played on the minds of the Sydney Swans?

“Here we are paying this bloke a lot of money, his body is defying him at the moment and how silly would we look if we brought someone else in who has had trouble with an injury over a period of time as well.”
