Sam Edmund's mega trade update on Smith, Breust, Higgins, Broad and more

2020-10-01T11:25+10:00

The finals may be about to start but trade talk is well and truly heating up across the competition.

SEN Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund has provided a trade update on the likes of Luke Breust, Jack Higgins, Peter Wright, Nathan Broad, Isaac Smith and plenty more.

Here's the latest:

Jack Gunston

Sam says: “I’ve heard (Jack Gunston’s links to Collingwood), the best way I can describe it is there’s smoke, but I can’t find the fire.

“It’s been widely reported that Collingwood have interest and it’s commonly known they’d like another forward to help Brody Mihocek … I can’t see Hawthorn letting Gunston go.

“He’s just won their best and fairest and has two years left on his contract and we know that because (football boss) Graham Wright has said they don’t want to trade these established players.”

Luke Breust

Sam says: “Geelong has enquired about Luke Breust.

“The Cats are all over it, he’s got one more year to run on his contract.”

Isaac Smith

Sam says: “That’s the one as an unrestricted free agent where his future is very much up in the air.

“He’s got a big decision to make, he’s had an offer from Hawthorn on the table for a while now and there’s nothing wrong with that offer, but Melbourne want him.

“They want to put him on one wing and keep Ed Langdon on the other, Smith likes Melbourne’s list and their prospects.

“It sounds line ball this one, where his plays this next year and beyond.”

Jack Higgins

Sam says: “I think there may have been a few calls made (by opposition clubs) on this.

“Whether he’ll leave or not seems wildly unrealistic, I think he stays and he’s got Richmond very much running through his veins and given everything he’d been through from a health perspective, it would be really hard to prise him out of there.

“Given his status (not being in the side), definitely calls have been made.”

Peter Wright

Sam says: “He is well and truly up for grabs.

“Peter Wright is up for grabs as is Will Brodie at the Gold Coast Suns but there’s no takers there as of yet. I think they fit into that basket on uncertainly over list sizes given their status in the competition.

“Once that picture becomes clearer, I think we’ll hear some suitors”

Nathan Broad

Sam says: “Nathan Broad remains unsigned at Richmond and he’s been linked to Gold Coast, who have a lukewarm interest.

“They’re not red-hot on him, it’s more lukewarm given what they’ve got in that position.”
