Contracted North Melbourne ruckman expected to explore trade options

2020-10-04T12:45+10:00

Veteran North Melbourne ruckman Todd Goldstein could explore his options in the upcoming trade period, according to Channel 9’s Damian Barrett.

The Roos are currently embarking on rapid rebuild after they delisted 11 players and then opted laast month to publicly put forward Ben Brown up for trade.

The likes of midfielder pair Shaun Higgins and Jared Polec are also expected to leave the club and according to Barrett, Goldstein could be the next player to look elsewhere.

“We know two weeks ago that North Melbourne exited 11 players,” he said on the Sunday Footy Show.

“There’s still another four players that are considering their futures, we know Shaun Higgins is looking elsewhere even though he’s contracted, Ben Brown will leave and St Kilda are still considering possibilities around him and Melbourne might be interested (too).

“You’ve got Todd Goldstein, who I expect also to open his mind up to the (trade) possibilities that were there this time last year before he re-signed at North.

“And as we’ve known for some time, if Jared Polec can get a deal at a new club and that club can take over a lot of the wage that he’s on, then North Melbourne will be shedding another four players.”

As reported by The Age on Saturday, dual North Melbourne premiership player and current Sydney assistant coach John Blakey is expected to return to Arden St in 2021 to serve as a senior assistant under Rhyce Shaw.

The news comes after the club opted to part ways with several coaches last week, including Jade Rawlings and Heath Scotland.
