Robert Craddock's AFL Grand Final entertainment tip

2020-10-05T12:02+11:00

Robert Craddock says he’s heard Brisbane indie pop band Sheppard is in the mix to headline the AFL’s Grand Final entertainment.

Known for hits such as ‘Geronimo’ and ‘Coming Home’, Sheppard are world-renowned and have made significant strides in the music industry in recent years.

Ahead of the history-making showpiece event at The Gabba on October 24, Craddock believes the band could be involved in the day.

“I’ve very pleased to hear one of my favourite songs could be making an appearance on Grand Final day,” he said on SEN’s Whateley.

“My hips will start moving the moment I sing it – Geronimo by Sheppard – it’s a good tune and I hear they’re very much in the mix.

“In all seriousness, imagine them playing in front of 30,000 fans. I’ll say this candidly, they’ve got Meatloaf covered already.”

After their win on Friday night, Brisbane is just one victory away from booking their spot in the Grand Final and Craddock said they were now starting to get mainstream recognition for their efforts this season.

“The Lions win over the Tigers was a seminal moment for AFL in Queensland,” he said.

“(The game) rated its pants off and out-rated Rugby League, it generated front and back page publicity and it was so well received in Queensland.

“The Broncos were going so bad to win the wooden spoon and they were huge news and even last week when the AFL were desperate for clear air, the Broncos appointed a new coach in Kevin Walters and Queensland appointed Wayne Bennett as State of Origin coach – you could not get two more romantic stories with many threads.

“But Brisbane came bursting out of the forest on Friday night, the Lions just had to win the game not just for them and their fans but for the sport in Queensland.

“Now they’ve got two blissful weeks of clear air before the prelim final and perhaps a Grand Final which will be an event like no other.”

The majority of the AFL’s teams have been based in Queensland since July after Victoria’s second COVID-19 wave forced the League to relocate north to keep the season alive.
