Dons attempting to lure young Giant to Tullamarine

2020-10-08T12:15+11:00

Essendon is working hard to convince Jye Caldwell to move to Tullamarine, with the out-of-contract GWS midfielder still deciding on his future.

Caldwell, 20 and the No.11 pick in the 2018 draft, is wrestling with three options. He is being heavily courted by the Bombers and St Kilda, while the Giants also really want to keep him.

Other clubs have registered their interest, but the midfielder will play for the Bombers, Saints or Giants in 2021 and beyond.

Caldwell’s decision will not be determined by money, but more opportunity to play regular senior football and how he can fit into a side.

He has had his exit interview with the Giants, but that conversation didn’t completely satisfy him and he remains undecided about where to play next year.

Caldwell was one of three Giants players the club took in the 2018 draft to fall out of contract this year. The Giants are also fighting to keep Xavier O’Halloran, but Jackson Hately has requested a trade to the Crows after SEN reported last month that the South Australian club had made him a recruiting priority.
