Trade exit for Bulldogs star "may not be out of the question"

2020-10-09T14:11+11:00

Star Western Bulldogs midfielder Lachie Hunter has once again been linked with a potential trade exit.

Caroline Wilson reported in August that Hunter’s relationship with the Bulldogs had soured and that he could be on the move at season's end.

Hunter, 25, was suspended for four games and fined $5000 by the club for his involvement in an alleged drink-driving incident in April that cost him the vice-captaincy.

SEN host Andy Maher understands that Hunter potentially leaving the Bulldogs for another club is a possibility.

“He (Hunter) is contracted until 2024 but I’m told that it may not be out of the question (a trade),” Maher told SEN’s Bob and Andy.

Easton Wood told SEN’s Whateley that the Bulldogs will look to be “active” during the trade and free agency period after another elimination final exit.

Based on Wood’s comments, Maher expects the Bulldogs to chase a key defender and a small forward this off-season.

“There will be changes," Maher said.

“I think the suggestion is that another big bloke, maybe a tall defender, would be handy and maybe someone up the other end at ground level might be pretty handy as well.

“One way to do that is perhaps see if we can flush something out with a top-end talent like Lachie Hunter, if there’s room on both sides of the equation for change.

“If he’s available there would be suitors coming at him left, right and centre at a rate of knots.”

Hunter, a Bulldogs premiership player in 2016, has played 138 games across eight seasons at Whitten Oval and won the club's best and fairest in 2018.
