Has this consistent Cat been “criminally underrated”?

2020-10-11T12:35+11:00

Geelong midfielder Mitch Duncan delivered one of the best performances of his career in Saturday night’s semi-final thrashing of Collingwood.

Duncan had the ball on a string, finishing with a season-high 30 disposals at 86.7 per cent efficiency along with 10 score involvements, three goal assists and 487 metres gained.

The 29-year-old has been a mainstay in the Cats’ engine room for several years and has largely gone under the radar throughout his 11 seasons in the AFL.

Geelong veteran Zach Tuohy says Duncan has been "criminally underrated" for the entirety of his 221-game career.

"He's been criminally underrated his whole career,” Tuohy told Channel Nine’s Sunday Footy Show.

“He’s been in the top few midfielders in the competition for a very long time now, especially in that run and ball use role.

“We rate him incredibly highly internally, but we don’t feel like he probably gets the respect he deserves externally.

“Last night was just the perfect example of just how good he is.”

Rated as the best inside 50 kick in the competition, Duncan was unlucky not to make this year's All-Australian squad of 40.

Geelong booked a preliminary final date with Brisbane at the Gabba next Saturday night as they look to make a first Grand Final since 2011.
