Where Brisbane was “found out” in Preliminary Final loss

2020-10-18T12:49+11:00

Brisbane’s tall forwards were “found out” in their Preliminary Final loss to Geelong, according to Kane Cornes.

Lions pair Eric Hipwood and Dan McStay were well held against the Cats taking five marks and kicking just one goal between them in Saturday night’s 40-point defeat.

With their 2020 campaign done and dusted, Brisbane will look to seal a deal for Essendon spearhead Joe Daniher who has expressed a desire to join the club during the trade and free agency period.

“You can see why they’re going after Joe Daniher,” Cornes told AFL Media The Round So Far.

“Their forwards didn’t fire a shot tonight. If it wasn’t for Charlie Cameron early, they didn’t look like it.

“Hipwood didn’t look like it, McStay didn’t look like it. They need Joe and they need him fit.

“If they can get that then you’d be pretty confident next year, but their tall forward line was always going to be an issue and they got found out tonight.

Lions coach Chris Fagan addressed the Daniher situation following their finals exit.

“We are obviously pretty keen to get Joe Daniher to our club,” Fagan told reporters.

“We think he can help. We are already in the business of improving for next year, so we won‘t let the grass grow under our feet.”

Essendon and Brisbane have held talks over a trade for Daniher who will exercise his rights as a restricted free agent.
