Collingwood’s “worry” about the Treloar situation

2020-10-20T16:11+11:00

Adam Treloar’s name continues to be bandied around in trade circles.

The midfielder is contracted to Collingwood until 2025, but that has not stopped the constant chatter surrounding his future in the black and white.

The Magpies have a tight salary cap and a player on significant money like Treloar is naturally looked at as one who could be moved on, with Essendon’s Zach Merrett reportedly on their radar.

SEN’s Sam Edmund issued a “watch this space” regarding the Pies at the moment while former club recruiter Matt Rendell has also chimed in.

He suggests there is a “worry” when it comes to the Treloar situation.

On SEN Breakfast, Tim Watson asked: “You know this situation really well and we keep hearing that Zach Merrett has attracted interest at Collingwood and they’re into him.

“They would like the idea of moving Treloar on and having somebody like a Merrett, who kicks the ball better than Treloar, in their midfield.

“Is that their thinking behind this?”

To which Rendell replied: “I’ve got no doubt about that.

“The other factor with Treloar, is Adam doesn’t think it’s an issue with his fiancé (Kim Ravaillion) and their kid being in Brisbane, but I think the club is a bit worried with how he’s going to handle that situation.

“Because this time last year, they floated him a move up there. They knew that his partner was going to go and play netball up there. So they floated it this time last year.

“Adam wasn’t interested in it but it’s come back again.

“I think they’re mostly worried how he’s going to spend his time trying to work out how to catch up with his fiancé and kid. It might affect his footy.

“Also, that kick effectiveness would be an issue for the club as well.

“The only problem with that is Merrett’s contracted and so is Treloar. I don’t know how you make this happen if Essendon say we’re not trading Merrett.”

Treloar reportedly remains committed to the Magpies but the noise simply won't go away.
