Garry Lyon has flagged Geelong skipper Joel Selwood as the man to stop Richmond’s Dustin Martin in Saturday night’s AFL Grand Final.
Speaking on SEN Breakfast this morning, Lyon suggested Selwood should run with Martin when the Tiger champion is in the middle, with Cats defender Jake Kolodjashnij taking over when Martin drifts forward.
“I reckon I’d throw him (Selwood) that challenge around the ground,” Lyon said.
“Just say you’re with Dustin. It’s not the Shane Heard get inside your jumper, but you’re with him, take it personally every single contest."
Lyon suggested Kolodjashnij, fresh off a stellar Preliminary Final performance on Brisbane’s Charlie Cameron, should go to Martin deep forward.
“Then the hand over, it’s probably going to be Kolodjashnij I reckon who will get the first crack at it and then the communication between Joel and Kolodjashnij is going to have to be as good as it has ever been," he said.
Selwood missed the most recent clash between the two sides in round 17 this year through injury, where Richmond claimed a 26-point victory and Dustin Martin collected 19 possessions.
