Victorian club out of the race for Giants youngster

2020-10-22T07:11+11:00

GWS youngster Jye Caldwell won’t be joining St Kilda, according to Tim Watson.

Caldwell has been linked with a return to Victoria with the Saints and Essendon actively pursuing the off-contract midfielder.

The Giants met with the 20-year-old’s management on Tuesday in a bid to retain his services for 2021 and beyond.

Watson understands the Saints are now out of the race for Caldwell’s signature.

“They (St Kilda) add (Brad) Crouch to that group and say they push Hunter Clark into the midfield, it’s starting to look like a really, really deep talented midfield group,” Watson told SEN Breakfast.

“I am hearing though that they (St Kilda) won’t be getting Jye Caldwell now.

“Where he ends up is going to be interesting.

“I don’t think he will stay, there are other suitors.”

The Bombers are now seemingly the favourites to land Caldwell if he decides to leave GWS with a five-year contract reportedly tabled.

Caldwell, the 11th selection overall in the 2018 draft, played nine of his 11 games for the Giants last season.
