Report: Melbourne livewire requests move to Dogs

2020-10-22T13:15+11:00

Melbourne forward Mitch Hannan has requested a trade to the Western Bulldogs.

The Age’s Peter Ryan is reporting that the 26-year-old has asked for a move to Whitten Oval, where he played in Footscray’s VFL premiership in 2016.

Hannan has played 50 games and kicked 55 goals for the Dees over four seasons, but managed only nine in 2020 as first-round draftee Kysaiah Pickett emerged.

The Bulldogs may be looking to reshape their forward line, with Josh Schache, Bailey Dale and Sam Lloyd all playing fewer than 10 games after strong runs home in 2019.

With Laitham Vandermeer, Cody Weightman and Rhylee West emerging across half-forward, the Dees livewire will bring experience to a forward line and team that needs more of it to contend.

Hannan played 14 games and kicked 19 goals for Footscray in 2016, and is best remembered by Dogs fans for his high-flying leaps.

Melbourne are also set to lose backup ruckman Braydon Preuss, with the former Roo having requested a trade to the GWS Giants earlier in the month.
