Star defender takes home Fremantle's best and fairest

2020-10-23T07:33+11:00

Star Fremantle defender Luke Ryan has taken out the club’s best and fairest overnight.

The 2020 All-Australian stood up for the Dockers in defence in the absence of Alex Pearce and Joel Hamling, making a name for himself as an undersized key defender and an excellent intercept marker.

Plucked out of the VFL late in the 2016 National Draft, Ryan has proven to be one of the best value selections of recent years.

He won the Doig Medal comfortably, with skipper Nathan Fyfe in second place, rising midfielders Adam Cerra and Andrew Brayshaw behind them and 35-year-old David Mundy finishing 5th.

Ryan averaged 18 disposals per game and five marks across the season.
