Essendon sack football boss on eve of trade period

2020-10-29T10:28+11:00

Essendon has sensationally sacked GM of Football Dan Richardson on the eve of the trade period.

According to SEN Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund, he was told on Wednesday night that his services were no longer required.

“It is a big casualty this one,” he said on AFL Trade Radio.

“Paul Brasher promised a big review, he canvassed their football department after their horrific sesaon they had and Dan Richardson has been sacked.”

Former Essendon defender Brendon Goddard, who is a personal friend of Richardson's, said he was surprised by the decision.

“(That's a) little bit (of a) surprise, I ask the question if he is the biggest problem? They’re in position to make change, Paul Brasher the review has started, and he’s got his first victim,” Goddard said on AFL Trade Radio.

“Dan is a good friend of mine and he was my manager.

“I didn’t get to see him enough as a footy manager, as a friend I can be a bit blinded as to whether he was a problem or good at his job.

"Hard for me to say anything. I just question if he is part of the problem, not the problem.”

Richardson joined Essendon at the end of 2017.
