Every AFL club's 2020 trade period mission statement

2020-10-28T12:27+11:00

SEN Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund joined Gerard Whateley to preview every club’s trade and free agency period, outlining what their mission statements should be.

See what they thought of all 18 clubs below:

Adelaide club banner

Sam: “Do everything you can to get pick two for Brad Crouch and then smash the draft.”

Gerard: “Spread the rebuild across two drafts, I definitely want an additional first round pick in 2021 purely because of the compromised nature of (the 2020 draft).”

Brisbane club banner

Sam: “End the Daniher saga, get this deal done and get it done swiftly.”

Gerard: “Don’t finish without Joe.”

Carlton club banner

Sam: “Three words only needed here – split pick 7. You get Saad and then you take another first rounder into the draft.”

Gerard: “Who’s the third target? Now is the time to spend.”

Collingwood club banner

Sam: “Repair relationships and get KPMG in to look over some of these deals.”

Gerard: “Don’t be weaker, it feels to me that their list could land up weaker over the next three weeks than stronger.”

Essendon club banner

Sam: “Somehow convince the Bulldogs to deal Dunkley – as it stands at the moment, he has told the Dogs he wants to go to Essendon.”

Gerard: “Attack, attack, attack. Adrian Dodoro has picks and cash – they should menace the footy world on what they’ve got.”

Fremantle club banner

Sam: “Be as desperate to get Jordan Clark in as you are to get Jesse Hogan out.

Gerard: “Find key position support.”

Geelong club banner

Sam: “Scratch the Giants back on Cameron, steal Shaun Higgins and Isaac Smith for a pretty penny and hold Jordan Clark at all costs.”

Gerard: “Get Jeremy Cameron and take two first-round picks to the draft.”

Gold Coast club banner

Sam: “No longer a bank to raid, get Nathan Broad and Adam Treloar if he comes around, but spend smart."

Gerard: “Ring every day and offer pick five for Treloar – and make Collingwood pay for him. Get Treloar in the same room as Matt Rowell and get them to talk about it, it would be the start of a great relationship.”

GWS Giants club banner

Sam: “Get dangerous, it isn’t spare cash but a weapon of mass destruction.”

Gerard: “Plan the next assault, there’s too much money and too many years wrapped up in too few contracts.”

Hawthorn club banner

Sam: “Do that thing you hate doing and go to the draft.”

Gerard: “Go to the draft, it’s time.”

Melbourne club banner

Sam: “Strap Ben Brown and Isaac Smith into the red and blue roller-coaster and hold on tight for a make-or-break season.”

Gerard: “Don’t lose Clayton Oliver, next year you’ll learn the truth.”

North Melbourne club banner

Sam: “Pray like never before that the Crows and Crouch comp isn’t first round. Squeeze the lemon dry for Ben Brown and Shaun Higgins.”

Gerard: “Find ground zero and no shortcuts.”

Port Adelaide club banner

Sam: “Sydney smash and grab, Aliir Aliir is a nice fit but don’t give up a ruck.

Gerard: “Don’t lose any essential pieces – that takes in a ruck and Ollie Wines. And add Orazio Fantasia.”

Richmond club banner

Sam: “Jump into the deep end on Jesse Hogan, enhance your reputation as the culture club and take him on. It’s not as silly as it sounds.”

Gerard: “Draft the next Noah Balta.”

St Kilda club banner

Sam: “The sequel is never as good as the original, don’t try and replicate next year. Get Brad Crouch and Shaun McKernan for free and take pick 15 to the draft.

Gerard: “We trust you – you got last year so right.”

Sydney club banner

Sam: “Supersize me, do everything in your power to prise a ruckman out of anywhere.”

Gerard: “Bolster the senior core.”

West Coast club banner

Sam: “Wake us up where it’s over, I can’t see them doing anything.”

Gerard: “Shake a few trees just in case.”

Western Bulldogs banner

Sam: “Talk Josh Dunkley out of it and the find some draft therapy by snagging the best kid in the land in Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.”

Gerard: “Give Luke Beveridge more pieces, but not at the fringes. No more around the edges, if you’re going to add – give him pieces he can use every single week.”
