Giants address Hogan, McDonald and Treloar links

2020-10-30T08:57+11:00

GWS GM of Football Jason McCartney says the club is doing its due diligence on Fremantle forward Jesse Hogan.

Hogan has a year to run on his three-year deal but the Dockers have reportedly put the 25-year-old up for trade and are willing to contribute to his $650,000 wage at a new club.

Former AFL recruiter Matt Rendell believes it’s “a fait accompli” that Hogan will be at the Giants in 2021.

Speaking on AFL Trade Radio’s The Early Trade, McCartney addressed the links to Hogan, Melbourne forward Tom McDonald, Collingwood midfielder Adam Treloar and the future of forward Zac Langdon.

Jesse Hogan

"He’s one of a number of players that we’re doing a lot of investigation work around because with any player all you need to do is get as much information as possible, make an educated decision on which way you want to go on how your club’s structured, what are the opportunities, and then you go from there.

"It’s about gathering a lot of information so whether it’s Jesse Hogan, Braydon Preuss or others, you go in with your eyes wide open … you don’t want any surprises with any players you bring in to your footy club.

"The short answer is we’re doing some work there, I don’t know where it goes, but I know other clubs are doing a fair bit of work there as well."

Tom McDonald

"At this point in time it hasn’t had a lot of airtime within our discussions. But once again with so many players in play there will be a number of things that we need to consider.

"There will be many twists and turns throughout the next 12 days."

Adam Treloar

"Very good player Adam and a great person and a great past player and friend of many at the Giants.

"We haven’t ruled out anything we just understand the landscape though, and you do have to be realistic.

"The quality of the player and the person would be a tick, but obviously there’s a number of roadblocks around salary and how you would be able to facilitate something like that.

"I would say it’s one in the unlikely basket but there will be plenty of twists and turns over this period."

Zac Langdon

"He’s exploring his options.

"We’ve had some really good dialogue with Darren Glass at the West Coast Eagles … we’ll get something done.

"Zac’s originally from WA and this year he was just starved of opportunities.

"We understand the opportunity and the lure of playing football back home, something will get done at some stage with the West Coast Eagles."
