SEN Chief Sports Reporter Sam Edmund says Carlton’s pick 7 will land up at Essendon in the Adam Saad deal.
As the Blues look to seal the deal for the running defender to join the club after he requested a trade earlier this month, there’s been some speculation that they’d look to split pick 7 with another team and send one of those first-round picks to Essendon.
But Edmund now believes that the Blues will send pick 7 to the Bombers in the deal, with Essendon to include a later pick in the transaction.
“I still think the Adam Saad gets done pretty quickly when the trade period opens on November 4,” he said on AFL Trade Radio's Trade Afternoons.
“I’ve been told that Carlton haven’t been able to or looked to split pick seven. Regardless, I have heard as of today that pick seven will go to Essendon – although it may be pick eight after the Joe Daniher compensation comes back.
“Regardless, Carlton’s first pick goes to Essendon and something comes back the other way. I think that’s how that trade will look.
“The problem being is that Essendon don’t have a second round pick so I don’t know whether a third club will be involved here – I’m not going to pretend to know the specifications here.
“But I’ve just been told that pick seven hasn’t or won’t be split for Adam Saad.”
The 26-year-old is out of contract at the end of the year and recently rejected Essendon’s long-term contract offer.
