Victorian pair Marcus Harris and Will Pucovski have broken the record for the highest partnership in Sheffield Shield history.
Harris and Pucovski combined for an astonishing 486-run opening stand against South Australia with both players recording double centuries.
The openers broke the previous record partnership of 464 held by Steve and Mark Waugh, set in a Shield match between New South Wales and Western Australia in 1990.
Harris was finally out for 239 while Pucovski surged past 200 early on Day 3.
Victoria captain Peter Handscomb thoroughly enjoyed watching the duo go about their work as records tumbled at Glenelg Oval.
“That was awesome, so great to watch. They had chemistry from the start,” Handscomb said after Day 2.
“Matthew Hayden and Justin Langer used to love each other as openers, and I think these two will as well.
“It was a pretty special day. We asked Puc if he was happy to open, he was, and we can see why.”
Victoria is 2/564 at lunch on Day 3 with Pucovski (255) and Nic Maddinson (22) at the crease.
Harris and Pucovski are pressing for Test selection ahead of Australia's highly-anticipated home series against India.
