Geelong in talks over Higgins plus the latest on Cockatoo, Narkle, Parfitt and Ratugolea

2020-11-05T16:15+11:00

Geelong list boss Stephen Wells has confirmed the club is in talks with North Melbourne over a deal for Shaun Higgins.

Higgins is contracted to the Kangaroos for next year but the veteran midfielder is keen to join the Cats during the trade period.

Speaking on AFL Trade Radio’s The Late Trade, Wells also provided updates on Nakia Cockatoo, Quinton Narkle, Brandon Parfitt and Esava Ratugolea.

Shaun Higgins

"Whether it’s enough (pick 37) to get the deal done will be up to North Melbourne.

"Shaun’s a contracted player and we would like Shaun to join our club.

"It’s not something that we’ve pursued this year, but it’s turned out that we’re in a position where if we can get a deal done, he would like to come and play for us.

"We’re in discussions with Scott Clayton and Brady Rawlings at North Melbourne and we’re trying to do a deal, they’re also willing to discuss things with us.

"Will it get done? Unfortunately, that’s up to North Melbourne and not for me to decide."

Nakia Cockatoo

"Nakia is out of contract – although we’ve offered him a new contract – we’ll be happy for Nakia to stay at our club.

"But at the moment he has expressed a desire to try and get to Brisbane if he can, but he understands if a deal’s not done (then) he’s got a home here in Geelong and we hope for a change of luck with his injuries.

"Whenever Nakia has played for us he’s been exciting, and I think he’s a difference maker as a player. If he does get his body right, he will make a big difference to hopefully Geelong.

Quinton Narkle

"Quinton is one that’s out of contract and discussions with Quinton and his management have been that we hope to offer him a contract, but we just need to wait until we hear what list sizes and TPP are."

Brandon Parfitt

"Brandan Parfitt has signed a two-year deal and has no intention of not fulfilling that."

Esava Ratugolea

"Esava would admit himself that hub life wasn’t necessarily bringing the best out of him.

"We have great hopes for Esava and he’ll be playing with Geelong."
