Swans provide update on Aliir, McCartin, Hickey and Ladhams

2020-11-09T09:54+11:00

Sydney Swans CEO Tom Harley has issued an update on a number of players being mentioned in trade circles.

Harley indicated that defender Aliir Aliir, who has been linked with Port Adelaide, will be in the red and white in 2021 while commenting on Paddy McCartin, West Coast ruckman Tom Hickey and Port Adelaide's Peter Ladhams.

Aliir Aliir

“He’s a contracted player and there was some talk at the start of the trade period around Aliir and Port.

“He had his exit interview a couple of weeks ago and expecting Aliir to be part of it, for sure.”

Paddy McCartin

“He spent some time in Sydney probably six weeks ago now.

“We certainly had a discussion with Paddy. A bit goes to the list spots (being unknown).

“Obviously Tom, his brother, plays up here so we’ve been monitoring Paddy but nothing further to update at this point in time.

“Potentially, without committing to anything. Once we know that and once we know the players that we’ve got out of contract and what we might be doing with them in terms of filling that. There’s also rookie list opportunities as well.

“Certainly nothing set in stone or concrete. We have had that discussion and that added layer of having Tom on our list and a really important part of our future going forward.”

Tom Hickey

“We’re talking to Tom.

“Tom’s obviously contracted with West Coast and with contracted players you always have to respect that.

“We’ve had a discussion with Tom. We can think he can add something to the squad. We’ve been challenged in that area, primarily through injuries to Sam Naismith and Cal Sinclair.

“We’d love to put some support in there. We’ll monitor that one pretty closely today and tomorrow as the trades wrap up on Thursday.”

Peter Ladhams

“We appreciate that Port have got some good ruck stocks and contracted ruck stocks.

“We’ve asked a lot of questions to a lot of people but that was shut down pretty quickly.”
