Trotter provides update on Cameron, Phillips, McDonald, Kennedy, Scharenberg and more

2020-11-09T14:14+11:00

Prominent player manager David Trotter has provided an update on a number of his agency’s clients, including Jeremy Cameron, Tom Phillips, Tom McDonald, Matt Crouch and more.

Cameron is hoping to join Geelong, but needs the Cats and Giants to come together on a trade, while Phillips and McDonald have been mentioned as players who could potentially find new homes for 2021.

Crouch is a ‘pre-agent’ coming out of contract next year and set to reach free agency as his brother Brad did in 2020.

Trotter also gave the latest on Matt Kennedy, Matthew Scharenberg and Jackson Hately.

Jeremy Cameron (GWS)

“They’re in talks which is a good sign. If you look in recent years, a lot of the bigger deals come down to the last day or two," he told AFL Trade Radio.

“We hope that isn’t the case, but we’re really confident in Stephen Wells that they’re always really respectful in their dealings and have got a history of getting things done and being really fair.”

Tom McDonald (Melbourne) and Tom Phillips (Collingwood)

“I think there’s been a little bit of interest in those boys, but there’s no issue with the clubs that they’re at.

“I think it’s pretty clear with both of them there’s probably some issues in terms of salary cap and players they’re bringing in means if there is options for those boys, it would be considered by all parties.

“If a really good option pops up they’ll look at it, but by no means is it ‘get me out of the club’. It’s just conversations happening between all parties that some other things probably need to fall for other clubs to work out if they want to look at either Tom as an option.

“So hopefully a couple of things drop in the next day or two so some other things can start moving as well.”

Matt Kennedy (Carlton)

“He’s in a situation like a lot of players with the unknowns around list sizes and the salary cap and I think Matt played some really good footy this year.

“I’ve had a lot of chats with (list manager) Nick Austin at Carlton and he’s been really upfront that they think there’ll be a home there for Matthew at Carlton next year, they just need some clarity on where things sit.

“I’ve had a few calls (about him), but he’s really keen to stay at Carlton. If Matty didn’t have a home at Carlton, I’m sure he’d find one somewhere else, but I’m pretty sure we’ll get something done there.”

Jackson Hately (GWS)

“I’m pretty confident we’ll get something done there.

“The Giants have got a fair bit going on … There is the pre-season draft option there, but not many like to use it these days and I don’t think we’ll have to. I’m pretty confident the clubs will get something sorted in the next few days.”

Matt Scharenberg (Collingwood)

“I think once we get through Thursday and clubs know, whether they know list sizes or not, at least they know what is on their list and what has gone off.

“I’ve had a couple of calls on Matt, but nothing concrete. In our opinion he’s too good a player not to be in the AFL system next year, but he’s going to have to wait and see.”

Matt Crouch (Adelaide)

Matt Crouch is out of contract next year.

“I know they’ve started talking to the club. Adelaide has a few things going on and they’ll have some early draft picks to sort through this year.

“I’m sure we’ll sit down with Justin Reid after the trade period and have a chat.”
