Should this be Jack Silvagni’s role in 2021?

2020-11-11T10:25+11:00

Kane Cornes would like to see Jack Silvagni spend more time through the midfield for Carlton in 2021.

Silvagni was restricted to just three games in 2020 after suffering a bruised lung and fractured rib in the Blues’ Round 4 win over Essendon before undergoing knee surgery in August.

The 22-year-old has showcased his versatility throughout his 63-game career and Cornes thinks he has the attributes to play a similar role to GWS midfielder Matt de Boer.

“I want to see him move into the midfield next year in some capacity,” Cornes told AFL Trade Radio’s The Early Trade.

“I think he has similar attributes to Matt de Boer where he can play that accountable role but also be tough inside and then has the forward craft to get off his opponent and score as well from the midfield.

“I’m hoping Jack gets some midfield minutes at the Blues next year and can also help out Patrick Cripps.”

Carlton great Stephen Silvagni expects son Jack to honour the final year of his Blues contract.

“He’s got a contract (for 2021). I haven’t spoken to him much about the situation,” Silvagni said.

“He’s got a contract so as far as I know he’ll be remaining (at Carlton).”

Jack's younger brother Ben Silvagni was delisted by Carlton in September.
