Matthew Lloyd a big fan of young Carlton pick-up

2020-11-12T07:47+11:00

Matthew Lloyd believes Carlton has done well in securing young Geelong forward Lachie Fogarty.

Lloyd, who has coached Haileybury College for the last few years, has had his eye over recent draft crops and is a fan of Fogarty.

The 21-year-old was drafted with pick 22 in the 2017 National Draft and played 23 games for the Cats including six in 2020.

“I rate Fogarty. I think that he’s just been in a good side and it’s been hard to get a game,” Lloyd told AFL Trade Radio.

“I think he can really make an impact and probably challenges Eddie Betts in a sense.

“He can come in and put on that pressure, but he can also kick goals so I think it’s a nice little pickup for Carlton.”

Lloyd doesn’t believe the Blues are done yet in this trade period, adding to Damian Barrett’s report from last night that the club is open to trading wingman Lochie O’Brien to Collingwood.

“Lochie O’Brien is one that I think they’d be happy to let go, but it all centres around Jaidyn Stephenson,” he said.

“If Stephenson goes out, I think that O’Brien and Carlton are open to a trade and I think they’d love to get a pick around that 30 mark or high 20s.

“They drafted him at pick 10 so it is interesting that they would be happy to move him on, yet Collingwood probably see something in him that Carlton don’t see at AFL level.”
