Penrith coach Ivan Cleary has lauded his son Nathan’s Game 2 Origin performance, labelling it as “in control” as he’s ever seen him play.
Speaking to Matty Johns on 1170 SEN, Ivan spoke of how proud he was of Nathan’s comeback performance in New South Wales' 34-10 Origin victory over Queensland.
“I’ve obviously watched him a lot over the years, his whole first grade career and now I coach him,” the Panthers coach said.
“He looked as in control last night as any game that I’ve ever watched him.
“To do it at that level and under those circumstances, I’m very proud of him.
“We’re now looking forward for him to take that confidence up to Suncorp (in Game 3), which is going to be something else again next week.”
Johns echoed the Penrith coach’s appraisal, heaping further praise on Nathan’s performance.
“In my opinion it was the best performances of his career,” Johns said.
“In fact, I think it was one of the best performances I’ve seen from a Blues playmaker.”
The Blues star will look to repeat his Game 2 heroics, as New South Wales aim to win the series decider away from home at Suncorp Stadium next Wednesday.
