2020-11-17T08:18+11:00

UPDATE

Reports that paperwork has already been lodged with the AFL for Maurice Rioli Jnr are incorrect, according to AAP.

Shayne Hope is reporting that although the paperwork is yet to be officially filed, Richmond has confirmed that "the process is a mere formality".

The Tigers have until November 25 to lodge the relevant documents.

EARLIER

Talented teenager Maurice Rioli Jnr has nominated his preferred club ahead of next month’s AFL Draft, according to the NT News.

The report indicates that the 18-year-old Tiwi Islander wants to play for Richmond and paperwork has been lodged with the AFL outlining that desire.

Rioli Jnr is eligible to play for both the Tigers and Fremantle under the father-son rule as his dad Maurice Snr was both a Richmond and South Fremantle champion.

The St Mary’s small forward is also eligible for Essendon through their Next Generation Academy which houses the Tiwi Islands in their zone.

It is understood that the Dockers have held several talks with Rioli Jnr, but he is keen to join cousin Daniel at Punt Road and follow in his father’s footsteps.

Interested clubs are able to bid on Rioli Jnr in the Draft meaning the Tigers would have to match any bid to secure his services.

Maurice Jnr is spending most of his time in Melbourne as a student at Scotch College and has been down at Tigerland numerous times over the past few years.
