The North Melbourne pick swap David King would look at

North Melbourne premiership player David King has thrown up the possibilty of his former club trading their prized pick in this year’s draft if it means they gain access to multiple top selections.

Ahead of the National Draft on December 9, clubs are still able to trade draft picks, with the club suggesting earlier this week that they are open to offers for their pick two.

West Australia-born key forward Logan McDonald is widely tipped to be taken with the second pick in this year’s draft, with the 18-year-old lauded as a generational talent.

But despite the tantalising prospect of drafting McDonald, the club has freely admitted they won’t rule out trading the pick for the right deal.

King said North Melbourne should try and do a deal with Essendon, tempting them with pick two in exchange for picks six and seven, which the Bombers currently hold, as well pick eight.

“What if Essendon gave North Melbourne picks six and seven – I think you’ve got to look at it,” he said on SEN Breakfast.

“The start of a rebuild needs volume more than it does the absolute star, you make a good case with the generational forward because they’re hard to get.

“Do you need volume at this stage? I probably think you do. If the decision were mine and it was picks six and seven (in a trade), I think you’d have to look at it and I’d look at it.”

North Melbourne currently has picks 2, 11, 30, 39, 71 and 81 to use in the upcoming National Draft.

Following Rhyce Shaw’s departure, the club is set to appoint a new coach within days, with the race reportedly down to David Noble, Robert Harvey and Daniel Giansiracusa.
