Should the entire cricket summer be based in Sydney and Canberra?

Should the entire Australian cricket summer be based in Sydney and Canberra?

That’s the question that Ian Healy thinks Cricket Australia must answer within the next week.

The Adelaide Oval is set to host first the first Australia v India Test on December 17, but with the South Australian capital going back into lockdown, Healy thinks Cricket Australia officials might secure the series in one location.

“They say there’s going to be a decision on the Adelaide Test by Monday,” Pat Welsh said on SEN’s Pat and Heals.

Healy replied: “I’m not too sure about it, but the broadcasters are pushing for that.

“It just all depends on how Adelaide’s going.

“They’re all in Sydney, and I think there’s going to come a time when the travel has got to be minimised.

“You can’t be shipping 100 people cross country, they’ve probably got 50 people in each party, India and Australia.

“Then there’s the broadcaster, which is probably about 130 strong, then the teams and the equipment that’s got to go.

“They transverse the country every year, they have an east coast truck with all the equipment, and then a Tasmania, South Australia and Perth truck that’s doing that circuit.

“That’s quite complicated in these times, Adelaide’s just shut down again and the first Test is in Adelaide.”

With the complications of cities going into lockdown, Healy prefers the SCG and Manuka Oval to host all four Tests as well as the upcoming white ball series.

“I think somewhere across the line the best option might just be to stop travelling, and stay in New South Wales,” Healy said.

“Sydney and Canberra should host the whole summer.

“The traditional rotation around the states, they’re still trying to do, but maybe at some stage next week they’ll say we can’t.”

The four Test series against India is currently scheduled for Adelaide, Melbourne, Sydney and Brisbane.
