NRL world mourns the death of young Manly forward Keith Titmuss

The NRL world is mourning the tragic death of 20-year-old Manly player Keith Titmuss.

Titmuss passed away on Monday at Royal North Shore Hospital after becoming ill at the club’s training session that morning.

Sea Eagles Chief Executive Stephen Humphreys said on Monday night the club was “without answers”, and were unaware of any underlying conditions that may have caused his death.

Sydney Morning Herald reporter Adam Pengilly said that Titmuss felt severe full body cramps after a 90-minute training session, collapsing shortly after.

“He finished the session fine. They started doing some stretches afterwards and he started complaining of some pretty severe cramps,” Pengilly told Sky Sports Radio.

“And then shortly after he collapsed. They had an ambulance come to Narrabeen quickly after that.

“Basically no one knows what the cause of this. I spoke to a couple of people yesterday and basically Manly were doing a none contact conditioning session yesterday, a fitness session that lasted about 90 minutes to two hours.

“This is the strange thing for me, after he left Narrabeen he sort of regained consciousness and he was lucid to some extent. And unfortunately, the situation deteriorated quite rapidly once he got to hospital.

“It’s just a tragic, tragic story.”

The young forward had made it through to the Sea Eagles’ full-time squad after being named the club’s Jersey Flegg players’ player of the year in 2019, but was yet to make his NRL debut.
