Swans coach comments on potential recruit McCartin

2020-11-30T09:18+11:00

Sydney coach John Longmire says the club is weighing up a move for luckless forward Paddy McCartin.

Swans GM of Football Charlie Gardiner told SEN’s Dwayne’s World that McCartin is one of several players the club is looking at ahead of the AFL Rookie Draft on December 10.

The former No.1 draft pick, who has suffered eight concussions since 2014, is currently a delisted free agent after he was let go by St Kilda in 2019.

Longmire was asked on SEN Breakfast whether McCartin could join his brother Tom at the Swans in 2021.

“We’ve looked at him,” the Swans premiership coach said.

“We’re going into the draft and rookie draft in a couple of weeks with all options open. There’s been no guarantees made, we just need to make sure we keep everything open.

“We loved what Tommy’s been able to do us and the McCartin family are fantastic.

“We’ll see what happens on draft night and we’ve got to make sure we keep all of our options open.”

McCartin, 24, was restricted to just 35 games during his injury-ravaged time at the Saints.
