Will Crows bid on “super talented” Ugle-Hagan?

2020-12-02T09:58+11:00

Adelaide coach Matthew Nicks has hinted the club could bid for Western Bulldogs NGA prospect Jamarra Ugle-Hagan.

The Crows hold the No.1 pick in the 2020 AFL Draft and Ugle-Hagan, who has been compared to Sydney superstar Lance Franklin, is a player Nicks likes a lot.

The Bulldogs completed a strategic pick swap with GWS on Tuesday which took their points tally to 2489 – past the magic 2400 number required to cover a bid for the No.1 pick.

But Nicks said Adelaide will select the best player available with the prized top selection.

“I’m there to pick the best possible players in the draft and with that you use all your expertise and the guys that have watched them for years,” Nicks told SEN Breakfast.

“We’ll pick the best player that we believe is in the draft and if that’s Ugle-Hagan – because he’s a super talented footballer, then that’s where I guess a bid will come in because we believe he should be No.1 in the draft.

“We’re not going to go out of our way to pick a young kid who’s not that and risk not getting the best player in the draft.”

Nicks was asked whether Ugle-Hagan is the best player in the 2020 draft.

“I’m not going to give too much away, but he’s extremely good. There are a number of players that sit around that first pick,” he said.

Sydney will also reportedly bid for the 18-year-old forward if he’s available at pick No.3.
