LeBron James has signed a two-year contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers worth $85 million ($115 million AUD).
His contract now runs until the end of the 2022-2023 season and he will earn $44.5 million ($60.1 million AUD) in the final year of the deal.
James in his second year with the Lakers, with help from All-Star forward Anthony Davis, took Los Angeles to their first championship since 2010.
Davis is a free agent as we speak, but is expected to follow suit and sign a new Lakers contract.
Interestingly, James’ contract expires the year his son Bronny will be eligible for the NBA Draft.
The NBA is expected to change the rules in the next few years stopping players being drafted straight out of high school.
This would mean if Bronny gets drafted, his 40-year-old father could then sign with whichever team takes him.
The 2021 NBA season gets underway on December 23rd.
LeBron James‘ contract runs through 2023 -- when his son, Bronny, graduates high school and could have option to enter the NBA Draft if the league and NBPA change the high school-to-pro rule. https://t.co/6bcMLgYTVV
