Who Port Adelaide would have taken if they had Adelaide's top pick in the draft

2020-12-10T07:52+11:00

The 2020 National Draft was always set to be one without much consensus.

The impact of COVID-19 around Australia made it significantly harder for recruiters and scouts to get their eyes on players, not to mention Victorian prospects weren’t able to play at all.

Western Bulldogs Academy selection Jamarra Ugle-Hagan appeared to be the clear number one pick, but after that it could have gone a number of ways.

Adelaide went with key forward/ruckman Riley Thilthorpe with pick two, choosing the local South Australian prospect.

YOUR CLUB'S BEST DRAFT PICK SINCE 2015

Their crosstown rivals Port Adelaide had a different player at the top of their draft board, however.

Kane Cornes has revealed that the Power would have selected key defender Denver Grainger-Barras if they had the Crows’ pick.

The Swan Districts product ended up at Hawthorn with pick six.

“I made a few phone calls yesterday. Denver Grainger-Barras was Port Adelaide’s number one pick,” Cornes told SEN SA Breakfast.

“So if they had pick one, after Ugle-Hagan, they would have gone for him.

“So he’s a defender and that’s the player they thought was the best player after Ugle-Hagan in the draft.

“Clearly each club had different rankings of course.”
