The text Cats draftee received from Geelong champion

2020-12-16T15:30+11:00

Geelong draftee Max Holmes has revealed the text message he received from one champion Cat soon after being drafted.

Speaking on SEN Afternoons, Holmes, who Geelong drafted with pick 20 in last week’s AFL Draft, said it was a fellow Melbourne Grammarian that got in contact with him after he was selected by the Cats.

“I went to Melbourne Grammar, and Tom Hawkins also went to Grammar, so it was great receiving a text message from him,” Holmes said.

“He was saying it’s been a long time since he’s played alongside another Melbourne Grammar boy so he was excited, and I was too to be fair.”

Holmes said Geelong's playing group have made himself and the rest of the Cats' draft picks feel welcome in their first few days at the club.

“All of them have been great. It’s tough to imagine that I’d be playing with these kind of guys, these superstars. It’s weird to be amongst them at the club,” Holmes said.

“Me and the other boys who were drafted have been at the club since last Friday and everyone has been so welcoming.

"Even in a couple of the gym sessions we’ve done, I can already tell how much we’re going to be able to learn this year."
