Glenn Maxwell and Aaron Finch’s red-ball careers with Victoria could be coming to an end.
According to Fox Cricket’s Tom Morris, Maxwell and Finch are unlikely to represent Victoria in the Sheffield Shield again as their hopes of returning to the Australian Test side dwindle.
Morris understands that the duo have held talks with Cricket Victoria regarding their futures and are aware of the focus on promoting young batsmen such as Jake Fraser McGurk, Jono Merlo, Mackenzie Harvey and Sam Harper.
Maxwell hasn’t played Test cricket since 2017, but is a key figure in Australia’s ODI and T20 sides.
The 32-year-old averages 39.81 from 88 first class matches and has seven centuries next to his name.
Finch played the last of his five Tests against India in 2018 and averages 35.87 at first class level with seven tons.
The 34-year-old captains Australia’s ODI and T20 sides.
