Flemington hosts Friday twilight racing with a seven-race program, all of which take place up the famous straight at headquarters.
Looks a tricky program but hopefully can lob a few winners to take a bit of a bank into the big day of racing tomorrow.
The track is currently a Heavy 8 with the weather forecast predicting rain throughout the day. The rail is out 12m but will not affect the straight racing too significantly.
Race 3 Benchmark-70 (1000m) @ 4:30pm
Sapphire Crown
Interested in this four-year-old Gelding resuming here. Goes well first-up and looks well placed in this. The wet ground should suit nicely and maps to get a good run with all the speed drawn outside of it. Jump out leading in was impressive, where he tracked along under his own steam and hit the line well. Good chance here.
Suggested Bet: Back Sapphire Crown to win ($4.60).
Race 5 Three-year-old+ Sprint (1200m) @ 5:30pm
Zion
Willing to forgive the disappointing run last start due to an irregular heart rythym and focus in on his run two starts back at this track and distance. Had he not of wanted to lay in, he would have won that race. This does not look a whole lot tougher than the field he faced there. Does not look to be a lot of tempo, but he draws next to a few that will be up on pace where he can then find himself in a good position. Has talent and expecting him to bounce back here.
Suggested Bet: Back Zion each-way ($4.80 win, $1.90 place).
Race 7 Fillies & Mares Benchmark-64 (1200m) @ 6:30pm
Arigato
Steps up in grade here and must carry a bit of weight but she carried the 61kg to victory in impressive fashion last start at Benalla. She comes up in grade but faces her own sex after beating the boy’s last start. Craig Williams jumps into the saddle for this and while barrier two does not look the best for her, if the track plays favourably to the rail it will benefit her greatly. Has won on a Heavy track prior and she looks a nice chance here at odds.
Suggested Bet: Back Arigato each-way ($7 win, $2.30 place).
