Were North Melbourne too quick to move Majak Daw on?

2021-02-16T07:30+11:00

Tim Watson believes North Melbourne may have been too hasty to delist Majak Daw.

Daw, 29, will train with Melbourne for the rest of the pre-season, in the hope of winning a list spot before the supplemental selection period concludes in mid-March.

“I would’ve thought given how difficult the season was for North last year, that it was difficult for anybody to get some form of continuity or consistency,” Watson reflected on SEN Breakfast.

“They didn’t know what they wanted to do last year, they changed the way they played almost weekly.

“You have to be careful about how quickly you turf people out, when you don’t have those hard and fast styles of play people can find their spot and perform in.”

Garry Lyon says the Demons have handed the former Roo a “gilt-edged opportunity".

“If I was coach of Melbourne I’d sit him down and say, 'Maj, it’s all there for you to take hold of. Just come out and rip this thing to shreds for the next four weeks',” Lyon enthused.

“What a chance, what an opportunity this is for Majak Daw.”

Daw played 54 games in royal blue and white, having been signed as a rookie at the end of 2009.

His best season came in 2018, when he played a career-best 18 games as a key defender.
