The quirky theory which opens Smith’s path to Titans

2021-02-18T10:00+11:00

Former Queensland Origin representative Adrian Vowles believes Cameron Smith will forge an unconventional path to land at the Gold Coast Titans in 2022.

Speculation has exploded this week with Smith spotted training at park grounds on the Gold Coast, and Vowles believes the future Immortal will appear in a local competition before re-appearing in the NRL.

“My theory is Cameron Smith will play either Queensland Cup or he’ll play at the Currumbin Eagles with his good mate Matt Geyer who is coach," Vowles said on 1170 SEN Breakfast with Vossy.

“He’ll then come into the Titans that way.

“I just think he’s going to keep playing, and he’s got to play footy… even though he’s a legend of the game, he’ll play some local footy or Queensland Cup.

“I still think he’s going to suit up for the Titans, but I think he’s going to go through the Currumbin Eagles.”

Without an official NRL pre-season, Vowles believes Smith will use the time with a local club as a form of condensed off-season training.

“It doesn’t matter where you play, even if it’s local footy, without a pre-season I just think you’ve got to play some footy, get your timing right," he said.

Smith is still yet to officially announce his plans for the 2021 NRL season.
