Storm stars on top of NRL expansion club’s wish list

2021-02-24T11:25+11:00

With the NRL expected to add another Brisbane-based franchise to the league in 2023, competition is expected to heat up to sign marquee Queenslanders to lead the new side.

The three bids to become the NRL’s 17th club is set to come down to the Brisbane Jets, Redcliffe Dolphins and Brisbane Firebirds - and Jets’ boss Nic Livermore has his eyes set on two Maroons stars to lead his potential side.

Speaking to foxsports.com.au, Livermore earmarked Storm and Maroons stars Harry Grant and Cameron Munster as potential recruits to help make an impact in the Sunshine State.

“As a young guy when the Broncos came in there was Wally Lewis, Gene Miles and Allan Langer competing against the best guys from Sydney,” he told Fox Sports.

“I think we can emulate that with a Cameron Munster or Harry Grant. Ultimately more rugby league heroes in Brisbane will attract fans.

“That’s what the success of the Broncos has been built on with Lockyer, Renouf, Walters and Lazarus.

“People wanted to see icons play week in, week out and we want to do the same.”

Munster is currently contracted until the end of the 2023 season, while Grant comes off contract at the end of 2022 – just in time for the potential Jets bid.

The Storm on the other hand will be aiming to keep hold of both of the star Queenslanders pair.
