"He can be the best player in the comp": The NRL star set to explode in 2021

2021-03-01T11:40+11:00

Greg Alexander has bullish expectations for Latrell Mitchell’s 2021 season, telling Matt White the 23-year-old can be the best player in the NRL.

The South Sydney fullback enjoyed a dominant display in his side's 48-16 win over St. George Illawarra in Saturday’s Charity Shield game, and Alexander expects similar performances to follow in the season proper.

Speaking on SEN 1170 Mornings, Alexander believes more involvement on the ball will turn into weekly dominance from the Souths star.

“Last year it was a slow burn for Latrell at fullback and it took him a while to find his feet," Alexander said.

“Latrell needs to strike up a combination with his players around the ruck and his hooker in Damien Cook.

“If Latrell can involve himself a bit more, he can be the best player in the comp.

“He can be not only the best fullback, but the best player in the comp.”

Alexander expects Mitchell’s potential and output to come together in 2021, throwing up his name to claim the competition’s highest individual honour.

“He’s big, he’s powerful and he’s skilful, they’re natural skills and we saw them on show in Mudgee,” he added.

“Time for potential is over, let's see it from Latrell.

“If he starts pushing up and supporting his middle players, with a little bit more involvement and playing like he did on Saturday night, he can be the Dally M Medallist.”

South Sydney open the 2021 season against the Melbourne Storm on Thursday March 11.
