Who the Warriors should turn to after Hughes' Storm extension

2021-03-04T10:40+11:00

Melbourne halfback Jahrome Hughes signed a four-year extension with the Storm yesterday, turning his back on an eye-watering $2.5 million offer from the New Zealand Warriors.

Hughes enjoyed a breakout season in 2020, and the Warriors made no secrets about their pursuit of the playmaker.

With the 26-year-old now off market and Mitchell Moses set to stay with Parramatta, The Daily Telegraph’s Michael Carayannis ran through the Warriors’ alternate options.

“You’d suggest Mitchell Pearce will stay for a future season with the Newcastle Knights as well,” Carayannis said on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“So, the attention shifts to Adam Reynolds and the situation at South Sydney.

“Wouldn’t he be perfect for a club like the Warriors?”

Carayannis also pointed out some unexpected names that the New Zealand club could target.

“I know Shaun Johnson’s manager reached out to the Warriors to see if there was any interest, that would be a bit of a homecoming,” he added.

“There’s Tom Dearden from Brisbane who’s off contract and Corey Norman is also off-contract.

“There’s a few guys with points to prove, so it’s going to be an interesting market in the halves for the next few months.”
