Hawthorn youngster Jacob Koschitzke has put his name firmly in the mix for a Round 1 debut.
Koschitzke, 20, kicked six goals in the Hawks’ 39-point win over North Melbourne in the AAMI Community Series at Arden Street on Saturday.
The third-year Hawk is the cousin of 200-game Saint Justin and has been switched forward ahead of the 2021 season after being drafted as a defender.
“Jacob played an important role for us last week against the Bulldogs but didn’t score a goal, today he kicked six and could have kicked a couple of others,” Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson said post-game.
“It’s hard not to pick him when he has kicked six goals but we will wait and look at what the balance of the side is and look at what Essendon do with the balance of their side.
“Kicking six goals in the last trial game doesn’t hurt, you are putting your hand up for selection.”
Recruit Tom Phillips also impressed in Hawthorn’s 120 to 81 victory over the Kangaroos.
Phillips finished with 30 disposals and a goal in a busy afternoon for the former Magpie, while 18-year-old Tyler Brockman was on fire early with three first-quarter goals.
Hawthorn face Essendon in Round 1 at Marvel Stadium on March 20.
