Power pair are MEGT Australia rookies to watch in 2021

2021-03-10T15:30+11:00

Miles Bergman and Lachie Jones would be “very stiff” not to play in Round 1 according to a Port Adelaide teammate.

Dan Houston believes the yet-to-debut pair are well in the mix to step out in an AFL game for the first time when the Power take on North Melbourne at Marvel Stadium on March 21.

“I think ‘Bergs’ and ‘Jonesy’ will be very stiff if they do miss out,” Houston said on SEN SA Breakfast.

“They’re probably our two young players that are coming through and pushing for spots.”

Bergman was drafted with pick 14 in 2019 but failed to make his debut last year which was interrupted by an ankle injury.

He put his best foot forward with a 17-disposal, eight-mark performance off half-back in his side’s crushing win over Adelaide in the AAMI Community Series.

New draftee Jones (pick 16 last year) also looked comfortable in limited game time against the Crows and could be considered for the opening round of the season.

The Power pair are rookies to watch in 2021 and both are eligible for the MEGT Australia Rookie of the Year which was won by Fremantle’s Caleb Serong in 2020.
