Voss pleads with Parramatta to keep superstar Sivo in rugby league

2021-03-19T09:40+11:00

After a dominant two-try performance in Parramatta’s 16-12 win over the Melbourne Storm, Maika Sivo’s future has again come under the microscope.

Hailing from Fji, Sivo has attracted interest form international rugby union, and Parramatta is hoping to lock him into the NRL long term.

Speaking on SEN 1170 Breakfast this morning, Andrew Voss said he was “desperate” to see the 27-year-old continue his career in rugby league.

“The Eels’ Maika Sivo is one of the best stories in the NRL,” Voss said.

“Hailing from the little village of Momi in Fiji, he’s made it to the top of the NRL via the Gundagai Tigers.

“It is now just two years, believe it or not, since he made his first-grade debut, but what a superstar attraction he’s become.

“39 tries in 48 games, and the meter is well and truly kicking over.

“He owns Bankwest Stadium, I said that in commentary last night.

“Incredibly now he has scored 26 tries from 24 games at the venue and let me tell you, I’ve called some amazing tries in my time, but Sivo’s last night was something special.

“That was an incredible catch, take into account the conditions, an amazing try from a 45-metre out bomb.

“Here’s the deal, Maika Sivo is coming off contract, he’s 27 and there are few more fearsome sights in rugby league than when he’s in full flight.

“He’s only been in the NRL for two seasons, the scary thing is he will keep improving, I can confidently predict that the best of Maika Sivo is yet to come.

“I’m told he’s on the verge of signing a new deal at Parramatta, but he has attracted interest from international rugby union.

“I’m just desperate to see Sivo stick around in rugby league longer, to see how far he can go and how good he can be.

“What he did last night was absolutely sensational.

“My verdict today is, please Parramatta, get the deal done.”
