Carlton forward avoids shoulder surgery, key Tiger "outside chance" to play in Round 2

2021-03-22T13:46+11:00

Jack Silvagni has avoided surgery on an injured shoulder.

Silvagni became the first medical sub of the season in Thursday’s clash with Richmond when he left the field with a shoulder subluxation.

But the luckless forward, who had his 2020 season derailed by knee and rib injuries, appears to have dodged a bullet with his latest setback.

Silvagni is yet to be officially ruled out of Thursday’s Round 2 meeting with Collingwood. While he won’t play against the Pies, he is not expected to be sidelined long-term.

It’s a similar story for Nick Vlastuin at Richmond. The three-time premiership defender, who was the subject of speculation regarding the seriousness of his injury, has been very sore in the days since he hyperextended his knee against the Blues.

The Tigers say he remains an outside chance to play in Round 2, but is more likely to need more time to recover from the injury.

Any player who is subbed from a game and looking to play the next week, must have his eligibility approved by AFL chief medical officer, Peter Harcourt.
