Benji thinks Brooks should move to five-eighth, but can the Tigers make the change?

Should the Wests Tigers move Luke Brooks from halfback to five-eighth? Club great Benji Marshall thinks so.

Marshall told The Daily Telegraph that he thinks Brooks should move to the number six position to relieve pressure and allow him to focus on running the ball.

“I think his strength is his running game,” Marshall said.

“So, if it was up to me I would be playing him at five-eighth and finding a halfback that can run the team.”

While Marshall hopes Brooks changes position, David Riccio believes the Tigers have no other choice but to persist with the 26-year-old at halfback.

“It’s a big call from Benji isn’t it,” Riccio told Andrew Voss on SEN 1170 Breakfast.

“Given that all of Luke brooks’ development as a junior has been at halfback.

“But I will say this, Luke Brooks is 26 years of age, this is his ninth season of NRL.

“If I was a Wests Tigers fan I would be expecting more out of Luke Brooks, he is their highest paid player in the club as far as the halves are concerned.

“He’s contracted until the end of 2023 and the side is based around him.

“Tigers fans don’t think Adam Reynolds can get to the club while Luke Brooks is contracted.

“I think the Tigers will have to persist with Brooks at seven because of how much they’ve invested in him.”

Calls have come for Brooks to change role after a poor start to the 2021 NRL season.

The Wests Tigers will look to earn their first win of the year this Sunday against the Newcastle Knights.
