Who will be the next Shaun Burgoyne and play until their late 30s?

2021-03-23T11:15+11:00

Shaun Burgoyne is still going strong at 38 year’s old for Hawthorn as he approaches the 400-game milestone.

And Hawks legend Dermott Brereton knows who the next player to thrive late into their 30s will be – Richmond midfielder Shane Edwards.

“Shaun Burgoyne is the oldest player in the league at 38. I’ve got the next bloke who’s still five and a half years away from turning 38, but he’ll make it: Shane Edwards,” Brereton told SEN’s Bob and Andy.

“He’s 32 and his fleet of foot, his sidestep, his agility, his nimbleness, he has lost nothing.

“He’s 32 and he may as well be 18.

“I can see him playing another five or six seasons.”

Edwards has already played 266 career games for the Tigers and has been a part of all three premierships.
