Rendell’s "clear" No.1 pick in the 2021 AFL Draft

Collingwood father-son prospect Nick Daicos has been viewed as a potential No.1 pick in this year’s AFL Draft.

Daicos, the son of 250-game Magpies great Peter and brother of emerging Pie Josh, has been turning heads at the Holden Centre throughout the pre-season.

The Oakleigh Chargers product’s talent was on show during a recent VFL practice match against Footscray with Collingwood coach Nathan Buckley declaring the 18-year-old would have been in the mix to play in Round 1 if available.

“Would Nick get a game (in Round 1)? He wouldn't be far away because he's got attributes and underneath all of that he loves the game and Peter deserves a lot of credit for that,” Buckley told AFL.com.au.

Collingwood get first access to Daicos who will spend 2021 playing for the Chargers in the NAB League before representing Vic Metro at the Under-19 Championships later in the year.

Former AFL recruiter Matt Rendell says Daicos is the undoubted favourite to go at pick No.1 in this year’s draft.

“Nick Daicos, who after the weekend and speaking to quite a few people, is the clear No.1 (pick) this year,” Rendell told SEN’s Dwayne’s World.

“He’s been at the club for quite a while, so he’s going to walk in feeling like he's been there for three years.”

Despite the family’s strong Collingwood connections, Daicos grew up a Carlton fan with the arch rivals locking horns at the MCG on Thursday night.
